Further to my previous post – how is Whitehall doing….?

Posted by davidburbage on October 4, 2012

As if to lay bare the performance of Government, only when faced with court action to work through the awarding of a huge rail tender, does it transpire that Ministers haven’t been able to give the whole picture to the country.

Would have liked to have been in on the meeting when the new Secretary of State was told about the enormously costly and messy fiasco in his own new department.

Allister Heath has a way with words on this one, comparing how public sector cock-ups are dealt with far more indulgently than those in the private sector.

G4S to run the DfT anyone? Or Capita, Serco, PwC, KPMG, RBWM?

Whitehall’s Civil Service – a law unto itself?

Posted by davidburbage on October 2, 2012

It’s certainly something to note. If the average voter was asked “which is the political party that creates the highest six figure Government salaries” I bet the vast majority would choose we the Conservatives, and not, as is the real position, the Labour Party. This is from the Daily Mail today (quoting some facts, not expressing opinions!)

It emerged in recent weeks that the number of  senior government workers earning more than £150,000 has fallen by a third since  the Coalition came to power.

In April, 234 civil servants and other  officials had salaries in the top tax band – down from 291 in 2011 and 372 in  2010.

The pressure on the highest salaries in the public sector is downward.

Of course, this then generates less tax….
