What an election looks like

Posted by davidburbage on April 15, 2010

This is what the election writ actually looks like :

Sorry about the unfocussed image, but there you have it !

Apparently the Chief Exec (as the acting Returning Officer) fills in the name of the successful candidate on the back and returns it to the Crown Office In Chancery.

And that’s all there is to it !

A better image of a writ can be seen here (claiming that the writs in 2005 were invalid in Scotland).

More 4 Less

At the manifesto launch today, David Cameron used that expression any number of times to show how Conservative Government would be a better Government . . . . ring any bells locally ?

Labour’s pledge to the nation

Posted by davidburbage on April 12, 2010

Secure the recovery by supporting the economy now, and more than halve the deficit by 2014 through economic growth, fair taxes and cuts to lower priority spending.

so let me get this straight – Labour, currently borrowing £170 billion pounds a year (that’s £500,000,000 every day) plans not only to go on borrowing, but only to “more than halve” – let’s call it £70 billion – the “deficit” by 2014.

That isn’t actually cutting the debt, it’s merely planning to increase it at a less accelerated pace.

We’ve maxed out the credit card, but we will max it out some more in the future, just not as quickly as we’ve already done it. It’s amazing how they think creating expensive debt for the UK is the best way of governing the country. Scary even.

At an apparent £1.5 trillion debt by 2014, that’s £25,000 per man woman and child in the country.

Not sustainable. Not a plan. Thanks go to Labour politicians.

Adam Boulton reports (from 1997)

Posted by davidburbage on April 3, 2010

Hap tip to Iain Dale – the reported campaign quote from John Major by Adam Boulton (a bit slimmer in 1997) was about the economy – “Don’t let Labour ruin it”. Mmmm.
