Windsor and Maidenhead are mentioned and then a quote from me (not really what I would have had if I had had the choice) about redundancies. . . .

Attending Court

Posted by davidburbage on February 21, 2010

Finally managed last week to attend a meeting of Imperial College Court, which only meets once a year. My former Imperial friend Mark Page sits on the Court from Westminster Council, and we caught up on mutual friends.

The meeting itself was a good chance to catch up on the workings and challenges facing Imperial (it has a site in Ascot, hence our seat on its Court) and had a great presentation on the Large Hadron Collider from one of the chief engineers Dr Tejinder “Jim” Virdee. It’s not going to blow up the earth, apparently, and is also unlikely to solve the mystery of gravity.

Another Letter to The Editor

Posted by davidburbage on February 10, 2010

This one is on the topic of free home care which was rush-announced by Brown and co last year.

The Times has given it significant prominence – the letter being signed by councillors of all political parties, although the Labour ones appear to have been having second thoughts!

My colleague Simon Dudley signed it on behalf of Windsor and Maidenhead.

Watching Big Brother Watch

Posted by davidburbage on February 4, 2010

Went along to a Windsor function last night with Alex Deane of Big Brother Watch. Whilst they complain about CCTV and all the spying done in the name of law enforcement, some good ideas did emerge of rebalancing the role of the state with the liberty of the individual…..

Actually it was funny because at the end of the bar was a sign which said “CCTV operates in these premises”
