Maidenhead Waterways

Last week we were fortunate to have a visit from Peter Ainsworth who is the Shadow Cabinet’s DEFRA postholder. With Richard Davenport from Maidenhead Waterways we walked up the York Stream to see how the plans to revitalise it can be moved forward. The EA appear to be the biggest bureaucratic obstacle because they treat the current stream as a water course rather than a navigable channel. Hopefully sense will prevail and simple experiments that need to be conducted to move the scheme forward can be done. It would be nice if the Council were in a position to add pressure to the EA. Peter Ainsworth agreed, said that the stream was a wasted asset and so much more could be done. I know that Theresa May has also offered help to the MWRG to liaise with the EA and – where there’s a will, there’s a way!
The Advertiser reported it well yesterday. We were balanced right on the edge of the bank on one of the photos desperately trying not to slip into the York Stream!
